Lavender & Lilac

lavender & lilac

hanging in the sun like fruit so rare

violently violet

in a heated summer’s breeze

making love while drawn into your perfume

has ever been my one wish

and tasting your heavy scent

like honey on my lips

while I open my mouth to his

to feel you dripping in my open hands

with rain or dew

while bruised clouds sulk and pout

and murmur and fret above

twisting and aching with tension and ease

and being eased down

under your open petals and branches

hungering to know what stillness you lie in

when this wind ceases

lavender & lilac

he’s afraid of coming in

there will be no prayers for you

this spring . . .
